Great Books for Easter

One of my all-time favorite books is
The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes
by Du Bose Heyward and delightful illustrations by Marjorie Hack

A wonderful classic.
If you want to read more, I blogged about it here:
Books for Spring and Easter

Another book to hunt down is
Petook: An Easter Story
By Caryll Houselander
and with lovely illustrations by Tomie dePaola

It is an Easter "fable" and helps explain some of the symbolism such as eggs and chicks with Easter.
It beautifully convoys the joy of rebirth found in Easter.

The illustrations are what I really love about this book. I adore Tomie dePaola and he captures the joyful story of the chicken family, however the story transpiring in the background of each illustration is amazing, as it follows the events of Holy Week.

The unfortunate news on this book is that it is out of print. You should be able to get a copy at your local library, and if you ever find one for sale - BUY IT!!
You won't regret it.
